Advanced salon microdermabrasion with Rio Crystal Renew
The Rio Crystal Renew microdermabrasion kit is an advanced microdermabrasion system, using vacuum technology to deliver an effective steady stream of natural crystals directly onto your skin. The flow of crystals lift and remove dead skin cells, as shown in the diagram on the right. The spent crystals and dead skin cells are then deposited into the filter collection canister. Subdermal circulation is also increased to accelerate and promote the natural rejuvenation of skin cells.
Microdermabrasion
Years of sun exposure and the ageing process take their toll on the skin, creating lines, wrinkles, and changes in texture and colour. Not only is the face a likely victim of these changes, but the neck, chest, cleavage, arms and hands may be affected as well. Microdermabrasion can reduce the effects of aging on our skin.
Microdermabrasion is a treatment that improves the appearance of wrinkles, skin texture and colour by removing the topmost layer of skin leaving it more supple and vibrant. Microdermabrasion also stimulates the elastic tissue beneath the surface of the skin resulting in a healthier and firmer appearance.
A wonderful alternative to laser or chemical peels, microdermabrasion is non-invasive, pain-free, non-surgical and requires no down time after treatment. The length of the treatment and number of treatments vary depending on skin type and condition. Results are gradual but highly effective. Most people experience softer, smoother skin after their first treatment.
The ancient Egyptians are said to be the first to use dermabrasion skin care techniques to improve their skin. Kings and queens used alabaster and pumice to remove blemishes and rough spots and make their skin smooth and soft. In the mid 1950’s motorised wire brushes replaced their human-powered predecessors and the use of dermabrasion became more commonplace. In the 1990’s a skin care technique using natural crystals for microdermabrasion was developed in Italy. Now the latest and most exciting innovation is the direct use of vacuum technology to give a controlled, efficient and comfortable treatment.
The treatment
Before you begin, watch the step-by-step DVD and study the user guide provided. It is essential to do a patch test 24 hours before you begin your treatment. Choose a small inconspicuous area on the neck and treat on low power. If your skin doesn’t react then it is safe to carry on.
Crystal Renew can be used on dry, oily and combination skin types by both men and women and also works on light, medium and dark skin tones. It is designed for anyone who wants to visibly reduce the appearance of brown spots, pore size and achieve a more even skin tone. It should not be used with skin conditions which include acne, rosacea, eczema, over moles or growths, or any other skin ailment and should not be used by children. It is recommended that you consult a doctor if you are unsure.
A full facial will take about 10 minutes. To begin with clean the area to be treated, rinse off and pat dry. Turn the unit on and select the power level you feel most comfortable with. Place the wand on your skin to activate the vacuum, which brings the crystals through the wand.
If you’re wondering whether the treatment is safe, this non-invasive process abrades the outer layer of the skin, which is only made of dead skin cells. The crystals are perfectly safe and non-toxic if ingested, cause no adverse skin reactions and they are not carcinogenic. Crystal Renew was designed for easy, safe, home use. You can control the strength of your treatment by adjusting the power levels. Also, the crystals will not flow from the wand unless the wand head has full contact with the skin. If you get any in your eyes or mouth simply rinse away with water.
Move the wand across the skin smoothly and slowly until you have covered the area to be treated. Relax and take your time with moving the wand across the face. When you have finished wash off any crystals and pat your face dry. You may want to apply an unperfumed moisturiser to finish off. Leave at least a week between treatments on the same area.

How quick before I see my results?
You’ll notice an immediate improvement to your skin after the first treatment. Improved tone and texture should be visible after the third treatment.
Is it normal to have crystal residue on my skin after a treatment?
Some crystals are left behind to indicate the areas that have been treated. These are easily removed with generous amounts of water after treatment.
Will it remove sun spots?
Around 6-10 treatments can remove smaller sun spots while larger ones fade significantly.
Can I use other skincare products?
Yes, but be careful of certain ingredients that may irritate your skin such as retinol.
How often should I use Crystal Renew?
We suggest no more than one treatment a week leaving at least 48 hours between treatments on the same area. Do not use more than once a week. After use, as with any exfoliation product, you should always protect your skin with a high sun protection factor sunscreen.
Will I feel any discomfort during treatment?
No. A slight abrasiveness may be felt, but the treatment should be gentle and painless and leave your skin feeling fresh, clean and smooth. If you feel any discomfort, decrease the power level.

You will not be able to buy the refills

The actual machine is really good and i found the affect to be good. However once you have used the first crystal cannister you will find it really hard if not impossible to purchase the refills. What is the point of spending all that money on a machine that you can only use a few times?

The flamboyantly-named "Rio Crystal Renew Rejuvenator System" is an expensive waste of money.
Technically, this machine is a small air pump, similar to the machines used for aerosol therapy. It sucks in fine, white sand (the eponymous "crystals") and delicately blows it onto your face.
In practice, it did nothing or very next to nothing to my skin (I used it several times). On top of that the sand runs out very quickly, cannot be re-used and the cartridges are expensive ([...] for a handful of sand? This is a total rip-off!)
Your money would be much better spent by buying a good facial scrub cream: it's cheaper, faster and works better. This is what I did, and this piece of junk is now sitting where it belongs, gathering dust in the cellar.
